Happy Anniversary to us! Today my post goes out to my husband for putting up with me and standing beside me for 18 years of marriage and 21 years of being together. He has been my rock and leaning post all of these years, and he continues to be my biggest fan and support in anything I choose to do.
It’s was eighteen (18) years ago today that I married the man I would be spending the rest of my life with. On this day the fall leaves were at their peak and the colors were simply breath taking. Our children were dressed in their best and very excited for what was about to happen
I married my best friend, my love and the man that has and always be my life. We started “dating” 21 years ago and haven’t been apart since then. We laugh, we cry and we get angry at times, but our love for each other has outlasted every trial and tribulation that has been put in front of us. He has been with me in some of the most difficult times in my life. Every time I turn around he is there for me, holding my hand or giving me a hug, just being the wonderful man that he is. Happy Anniversary Lucien!
So with him in mind I’ve decided to combine some of his favorite dishes that I’ve made and collect them all in one post. These 8 dishes are among his list of meals he puts on the repeat list (a list on our refrigerator that he says I have to make again, and again) so I don’t forget they are among his favorites. Believe me, there is no way I can forget his favorites! I’ve linked 8 meals for 18 years of marriage.
First up we have Split Pea & Ham Soup – It’s a great way to warm up on a cold winter’s day. I love to make a double batch and freeze it in individual containers and warm it up for his lunches. I’m lucky to be able to work from home and be here for when he walks through the door and have a nice hot lunch waiting for him.
One of his most requested meals is my Southern Style Biscuits and Gravy – It’s one of the first meals I made him when we started dating and since then he still can’t get enough. My wonderful husband has declared that he would walk through a snowstorm (we live in northern Maine) bare butt naked for a plate of my southern style biscuits and gravy. How can I not keep fixing this good old southern dish for him!
Now for a hearty fill your stomach meal we have a left-over holiday meal of my LeftOver Manwich – It’s one of the tastiest and manliest sandwiches out there. It stands right beside my stuffed burgers. He swears that this Manwich can make him smile on his toughest of days.
One of his old family favorites when he was growing up I learned to make from his mother. It’s my Turnips and Carrots – It’s a dish that I never knew existed until I moved up to Maine. He absolutely loves this dish anytime of the year, but mostly requests it on the holidays. The sweet bitterness of the turnip and the sweetness of the carrots with real butter is a scrumptious bite of pure goodness.
One of my most recent dishes that has been added to the repeat list is my Pesto Grilled Chicken Sandwich – The combination of the tender and juicy chicken with creamy melted swiss cheese along with the herbs in the pesto sauce all together in one bite, is one delicious bite of goodness.
Another of my newest dishes is a version that was inspired from a fellow blogger and has been repeated a few times now – It’s my Bison Meatball Soup – According to my husband it’s “lick the bowl clean” kind of soup. It will satisfy all hunger pains and will stick to your ribs as well.
Next up is a favorite of both ours – it’s my Perfect Prime Rib Roast with Twice Baked Potatoes that we fix every year for our Christmas dinner. It’s our splurge for the year and believe me, he will clean his plate! We always take the left-overs and make a delicious Prime Rib Stew as well. There is no way anyone is walking away from the table hungry!
Last but certainly not lest is a dish we make throughout the year but mainly during football season – it’s my Touch Down Wings and Field Goal Dip. It’s a kitchen quarterback’s dream. Get your home field advantage and set up for your Sunday game day. Be the star of the game and score the winning points with your team on their favorite day. He can almost eat the platter. Needless to say I have to make at least three batches of these wings to keep everyone happy and full.
No matter how long you’ve been married or been together, life is always best when you’re able to spend it with your best friend sharing life, love, happiness, and all things that life has to offer you. I’m a very lucky woman to have a man like Lucien in my life to share each day with. Happy Anniversary to my husband, my friend, my love and the person that has brought out the best side of me. Thank you Lucien for being there each and every day. Life and love begin in your heart and is cooked in the kitchen.
From my kitchen to yours,
